Ethnography Paper Proposal

As of now I am planning on writing my Ethnography paper on farmers. I am going to focus in on dairy farmers more than cash crop farmers. I want to figure out why people would want to milk cows with all the problems that farmers have to face in this modern world. I will observe a day in the life of a dairy farmer from the moment he/she wakes up to the time he/she goes to bed. There is definitely a lot more technology involved in milking today compared to in the past and I would like to see what kind of advances have been made in the dairy industry. I am definitely curious as to how much cows eat and how difficult they are to control and milk. Of course it won't be a cake walk figuring this stuff out.
Part of the farm experience is getting dirty. I think that I'm going to get dirty, whether it be mud or manure. I will probably also smell like a farm just from being there for an hour or two. I think that if it rains it is going to be a mud hole and if it is dry out then it is going to be like the dust bowl with all the tractors driving on the dirt roads.
This may deter most people from doing this but I enjoy being outdoors and getting my hands dirty. I am excited to see the whole milking operation in action. Another reason that I am interested in dairy farming is because my grandparents on both sides lived on farms and one side milked dairy cows for a living and the other side raised hogs.
There may be a few obstacles that I am going to have to overcome to complete this project. The first one is that farmers have little time to sit down and have an interview. They are probably either working or sleeping. Second is that I would not be able to go to a farm at which they are milking when I am able to go over there because then they are probably too busy to even talk to me. I do know of a few farmers that would probably work with my schedule.
I do have a few resources that I would be able to use for interviews. One is my cousin. He milks about 160 cows out by Prior Lake. I already talked to him and he said that it would be fine if I would come out and observe there and he even said that if I needed to I could interview him or any of the workers if they agree to it. He said that he is always busy so it wouldn't really matter what time I would come. The whole aspect of farmers being busy seems to be a recurring theme so I was thinking that my preliminary thesis would be something like: Although farmers have the important job of feeding the world, they have to work their hardest to keep the cows fed and stay out of the red.

Welcome

Hello. Welcome to Robbie's CIS blog. I will be posting paper proposals on here for CIS Composition.
